Today, PEI’s award-winning women’s choral ensemble Sirens announced its 2019–20 season. The ensemble is heading into the recording studio to produce its first full-length album “Boundless.” Because of the nature of this recording project, Sirens will be busy this fall preparing material and recording. Once completed, the women will present several performances in the first half of 2020 to give audiences a chance to hear this new music live.

Artistic Director Kelsea McLean described the repertoire that the group will record: “As women, we encounter obstacles in our world,” said McLean, “and these songs tell stories of suffering, but more importantly, stories about the resiliency of the human spirit. When faced with famine, imprisonment, mental illness, grief, discrimination, or insecurity, we learn to rise above our suffering. We wear our trials as a badge of honour and we are then free, or boundless.”

Sirens is excited to be working with noted musician and producer Jeff Reilly of Halifax, who has produced albums for the Canadian Chamber Choir and Xara Choral Theatre. There will be an exclusive “VIP Performance” on Monday, November 25 at Park Royal United Church, where invited audience members will get to see behind the scenes as the women prepare to record.

On Saturday, December 14th, Harmonia Girls’ Choir will present “Glow” at Park Royal United Church in Charlottetown. This ensemble is Sirens’ education program for girls between 11-18 years old. Harmonia will present songs that capture the magical beginnings of winter, inviting listeners to slow down and appreciate the beauty of the season.

2020 will kick off with a bang on January 18th, as Sirens present its “Boundless” CD pre-launch. The special evening will offer a few songs from the new recording, some light refreshments, a chance to mingle with the singers, and an opportunity for people to pre-order the album.

February will see the return of Sirens’ popular Cabaret evening, with “Crazy in Love” on February 15th at The Guild in Charlottetown. Join the ladies for a night of music that will be sure to make you laugh, cry, smile, and maybe even swoon. This event often sells out, so if you plan to treat your sweetheart, be sure to get your tickets early.

In May, Sirens will travel to Halifax to appear as featured artists at the Atlantic Festival of Music, Atlantic Canada’s largest band and choral festival. On May 23, Harmonia will be back with their concert “There has to be a Song,” at Park Royal United Church in Charlottetown. The performance will celebrate the joy of singing together as a source of inspiration and a sense of community.

Finally, Sirens will present two full-length performances of repertoire from “Boundless”: Saturday, June 6 at Park Royal United Church, Charlottetown and on Sunday, June 7 at St. Bonaventure’s Parish, Mount Stewart.
