Sirens Choral Association is pleased to announce the eleventh season of Sirens and the ninth season of Harmonia Youth Choir. Audience members are invited to share in another season of song, story-telling and harmony.

The season will kick-off on December 9 at Park Royal United Church in Charlottetown with “Glow.” Embrace the enchantment of the season through the youthful voices of Harmonia, Sirens principal educational program for young singers. Their harmonies will rejuvenate your spirit and fill your hearts with joy, creating a musical delight during this solstice celebration. The evening will be made even more special with a guest performance by Sirens, joining forces with Harmonia to perform Eric Whitacre’s breathtaking composition, “Glow.”

In the new year, Sirens will present “Birdsong.” In this concert, the ensemble takes you on an exploration of the countless species of birds that grace our planet. Each bird, a masterpiece of nature’s creativity, contributes to the rich tapestry of life. Sirens will perform select pieces from The Lost Words: A Spell Book, a choral project featuring compositions by 10 Canadian composers who have set poems from Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris’ bestselling book of the same name. There will be two performances of this program: January 20 at Park Royal United Church and January 21 at Trinity United Church in Summerside.

Harmonia Youth Choir will embrace the essence of spring in “Lovely Day” on April 28 at Park Royal United Church. Their performance will welcome the new season, where learning and growth flourish. It’s a celebration of fresh opportunities, offering a harmonious soundtrack to renewal and rebirth.

Concluding the season, Sirens presents “Into the Spin” on May 11 at Park Royal United Church. A thought-provoking concert that will delve into the interplay of time and mindfulness, the music will take you on a journey through moments of reflection and enlightenment. Featuring evocative pieces such as Eric Whitacre’s “Goodnight Moon,” David Lang’s “I Lie,” and Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Suite de Lorca, this concert promises to be a captivating exploration of the continuum of musical expressions.

Sirens’ cabaret evening is back by popular demand! “Songs of Sirens” will take place on Saturday, October 14th at 7:30 pm at Dr. Steel Recital Hall in Charlottetown.

This event will be a departure from the usual Sirens concert. In keeping with the cabaret feel, there will be folk, pop, jazz, and musical theatre selections sung by soloists, duos, and small groups. Singers will be joined by pianist Stephanie Cole, other special musical guests, and the ensemble will also perform some surprise tunes for the audience. To round out the evening, there will be announcement of our 2023-24 concert season, a 50/50 draw, and refreshments with singers.

Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the continued growth of Sirens Choral Association (SCA). Since the release of its debut album Boundless, Sirens has become in-demand as a performing ensemble with invitations to perform across Canada. SCA also supports the future generation of singers through Harmonia Youth Choirs and provides singing opportunities for adults with Spire Choir, produced in partnership with the Under the Spire Festival. Funds raised will assist with operational costs to keep our choirs singing!
